Today was the 2nd Thursday of the month, and that means that members of my local Rotary were reading to classes at the local elementary school. Because it's National Poetry Month, I chose Donald Hall's The Ox-Cart Man and Christopher Myers Jabberwocky. I was pleased to see how many of them already owned or knew Donald Hall's marvelous book. 1. Four out of 12 students showed up for class today. I was expecting 10 (two had sent early excuses). Three of the absentees overslept, as they told me later. Must be that time in the semester. BD is going to Ireland. She may spend some time in hostels (I certainly hope she does, says Almost-Wishing-I-Were-20-Again Mom.) When you stay in hostels, a lock comes in handy for the storage compartment under the bed.

1. Tim Brookes runs the best meetings! I spent about five hours today with a group of people developing a micro-publishing project that will combine education and the production of books for which there is a need. 1. I made it to Boston and to Brigham & Women's successfully! Coming out was still a bit of an adventure, due to a lack of detour signs after a certain point, but I still didn't get horribly lost, only moderately diverted and in the right direction.

Yesterday I drove BD (booksareadrug ) back to school after her mid-semester break. Central New York State has a different enough climate from Northern New England so that we saw some trees we couldn't quite identify. Their foliage was, in BD's words, "the color of the Macaroni and Cheese Crayola crayon." It's the best description I can think of for the orange-y ( Read more... )
